HOUSTON, TX –Nicole Longnecker Gallery presents dual exhibitions: Dreamscape by Amy Lin and You were never . . . but I keep looking for you anyway featuring new work by Cathie Kayser from February 21 to March 21, 2015 with an opening reception on Saturday, February 21, from 5-8pm.
SYNOPSIS: In the dual exhibitions: Dreamscape by Amy Lin and You were never . . . but I keep looking for you anyway featuring new work by Cathie Kayser, Nicole Longnecker Gallery features new work from two established artists. “I’m very excited to exhibit the exciting new direction from Houston’s own Cathie Kayser along with introducing Amy Lin’s new series of drawings to Houston,” said gallery owner Nicole Longnecker, “Both of these artists are heading in new directions with their work and artistic careers. I’m positive both will be very well received.”
AMY LIN: Amy Lin is an American artist living and working in Washington, D.C. Lin has had 12 solo exhibitions including solos in New York City, Tokyo, and Singapore and an upcoming one in D.C. Lin has been reviewed in the Washington Post and American Contemporary Art magazine and published in New American Paintings and art critic Lenny Campello's book "100 Artists of Washington, D.C.” Lin is the recipient of a Kittredge Fund and Strauss Grants. Lin’s drawings are held in many corporate and private collections throughout the US and Europe. In her first solo exhibition in Houston, Amy Lin's new collection of colored pencil drawings was inspired by her dreams. For the past year, Lin has recorded and diagramed her dreams each morning and used either the visual imagery or concepts of her dreams as starting points for her drawings. This is her way of connecting her subconscious sleeping dreamworld with her conscious mind.
CATHIE KAYSER: Cathie Kayser is a prolific Houston-based artist and printmaker. In this exhibition, she explores the concept of “letting go.” Kayser says each piece began “as trace monotypes—think, Paul Gaugin. I inked a plate, laid a piece of paper on top, and blindly drew with various implements on the back of the paper. I began with very transparent inks, whispers of color, and slowly built up the surfaces listening to what each piece was telling me it needed.”Cathie’s new work illustrates an established artist taking a new direction and finding great success.
