Nils Stærk will be showing at Art Basel 2018 a curated presentation with a tapestry by Miriam Bäckström as the main installation in the booth. The tapestry will be surrounded by art works by artists like FOS, Carlos Amorales, Runo Lagomarsino a.o. The large-scale woven tapestry is based on photographs by Miriam Bäckström. The original photographs are extremely high-resolution digital images of various manufactured surfaces including textiles, plastic and cardboard. The images are translated into a digital woven tapestry – a medium often associated as traditional and tangible: where the resolution of the photographic image ends, the yarns of the textile begin.
A part of our booth will be dedicated to three changing solo exhibitions – first a solo of new works by Gardar Eide Einarsson, followed by a show with new pastel paintings by Michael Kvium and ends with a solo by Torbjørn Rødland, who simultaneously will be at Bergen Kunsthall, NO. The new three works by Rødland are analog staged photographs.
Together the presented artists will give a good impression of the gallery’s general program. The artists shown will reflect diversity in expressions, style and media but all share a common interest and conceptual approach to materials and colors.
Since its inception in 1997, the gallery has been representing emergent and established artists primarily from Scandinavia and the Americas. Invested in different approaches, media and genres, these artists share in common an interest in exploring and critically communicating crucial ideas, values and conflicts fundamental to today’s globalised society. It is the 15th time the gallery participates in Art Basel.
