For Art Basel 2019 Nils Stærk will be showing a curated presentation that includes works by artists that reflect the gallery’s general program. The artists shown all share a conceptual approach to art, conveying ideas through material and form. The works in the main part of the booth will be by: Torbjørn Rødland, Carlos Amorales, Matthew Ronay, Gardar Eide Einarsson, Tove Storch, Gert & Uwe Tobias, FOS and Eduardo Terrazas. The chosen artworks all deal with the interrelation of aesthetics and politics, asking questions about current issues such as race and religion, democracy in our globalised world as well as gender and sexuality. Our curated presentation thus deals with the overall theme of: Struggles and identity in today’s complex world. This theme intertwines with Nils Stærk’s curatorial programme focusing onartists that share a common interest in exploring and critically communicating crucial ideas, values and conflicts fundamental to today’s globalized society.
To complement the main part of the booth we have dedicated a solo show space for two of our internationally emerging artists: Lea Porsager and Jone Kvie. We will present two changing solo displays of new works by the artists, adding a dynamic expression to the overall presentation. As well as sharing a common interest in placing contemporary media and techniques into a wider historical context, the selected artists both approach the artwork as a sculptural form, working from often heavy materials and large-scale formats.
