Statement
Itō Sekisui V, a 14th generation ceramic potter, was named a “Living National Treasure” by the Japan Gov't in 2003 for his work in mumyōi, a reddish brown clay extracted from mines native to Sado Island in Niigata. With this clay, he creates his signature black on red aesthetic.
