The paintings in Spectral Dregs & Reflective Topographies are process paintings. They explore elements from the process art movement of 1960’s & ‘70’s, as well as process painting over the last decade. These are paintings concerned with materiality, the physical gesture, and experimental processes that reflect an interest in scientific method. They are landscape paintings grown over long periods of time from numerous paint and sediment layers acted upon by the forces of gravity. At their core these paintings are meditations born of ritualized action, concerned with the question of how to make a new kind of painting and the way in which a painting’s surface can record a performance with a canvas.
