For MACO 2017, Páramo is pleased to present a selection of work developed from an exhibition curated by Patrick Charpenel opening at the gallery during the Pre-MACO weekend in Guadalajara on February 3, 2017.
The focus of the exhibition will include influential Mexican based artists ranging from the 1920s through the 1980s. Artists include: Francisco Toledo (1940), Germán Cueto (1893-1975), Germán Venegas (1959), Graciela Iturbide (1942), and Marius de Zayas (1880-1961). Páramo would like to contrast these influential artists with contemporary artists within the gallery program: Barb Smith, Gabinete H-E (including Bayrol Jiménez and Emanuel Tovar), Carolyn Salas, Javier Barrios, and Roberto Rébora. Artists from Modernism to Neo-Mexican- ism are contrasted with sculptures, drawings and works on paper in contemporary practices to reflect on ongoing interests in politics and culture depicted through the interepretation of the figure and form found in abstraction and figuration.
