Michael Kenna, in his more than forty years as a photographer, has been dedicated on capturing the natural world with long exhibitions, some of them up to eight or ten hours with his medium format film camera, that explains the square format of his pieces.
The result, is a work that embodies a timeless and silent essence, almost oneiric, evoking another world, where the presence of man is noticeable by its absence.
He avoids digital technologies, opting for the traditional darkroom, printing himself every copy of silver gelatin. His extraordinary work and style have created school.
The work of Michael Kenna is closer to poetry than it is to prose.
