John Walsh at Art Central HK Booth F11 Hong Kong 2017

Mon, Mar 20, 2017 at 5:00pm – Sat, Mar 25, 2017 at 6:00pm UTC
PAULNACHE is excited to present work by one of New Zealand’s most significant contemporary painters, artist John Walsh at Art Central Hong Kong, Central Harbour-front from the 21st – 25th of March 2017. John Walsh’s paintings of monumental landscapes populated by mysterious anthropomorphic creatures offer us, as ordinary mortals, a glimpse into a realm we may have heard described in Mātauranga Maori* but never fully imagined. Walsh’s technical abilities as a painter and his imaginings entwine to create images that float between the physical world and what might lie beyond. John Walsh at Art Central HK is a solo suite of two large scale etherial landscape paintings. “So of Aotearoa are these paintings that they could have been born from a Paua shell. Incandescent pearl and dark bushy tones colour the swathes of scrubby landscape, ocean and mist. This is the backdrop for a spirit-inhabited land of the long white cloud: of both past and present, at once afloat in the air, swimming in the great Pacific and dug into this peaty earth.” – Mark Amery (NZ art critic, writer) We invite the viewer to journey into an eerie past, present and future Aotearoa New Zealand. http://artcentralhongkong.com

Glen Hayward, 'Everyday People' Installation at Art Central PROJECTS P06 Hong Kong 2017

Mon, Mar 20, 2017 at 5:00pm – Sat, Mar 25, 2017 at 6:00pm UTC
Glen Hayward's 'Everyday People' (2017) presents a large-scale, site specific installation made from over 1000 rusty nails, snails and cigarettes painstakingly hand carved from wood and paint. Inspired by the dichotomy of Hong Kong’s national identity, the artist plays on the notion of the individual versus the collective.
