Dutch based artist Zhuang Hong Yi is emerging as one of the most notable contemporary
Chinese artists on the global stage, with top tier gallery representation across Asia, North
America and Europe. Piermarq lands his first Oceanic solo exhibition.
Zhuang’s work has been exhibited extensively at the leading international art fairs in the last
decade including the Venice Biennale, TEFAF, Art Amsterdam, Art Paris, Art Monaco, Xing Jiang
Biennial, Art Miami & Art Chicago, his works has been exhibited in solo shows in the leading
international arts hubs - Shanghai, Hong Kong, Singapore, Los Angeles, New York, Miami and
throughout Europe, including Germany, France, Belgium, Italy, Poland, Switzerland and Spain.
In Bloom features Zhuang’s signature ‘flower beds’, crafted from delicate pieces of rice paper, bent and folded into hundreds of tiny buds. Each individual piece of rice paper is fused into the canvas in a mesmeric, intricate and three dimensional array which allows each of his works to transition across the colour spectrum depending on the differing time of day, light and angle from which they are viewed. Zhuang’s work is built upon his native country’s well-established artistic traditions and boundaries, which he has married with the Netherlands’ encouragement of freedom of style. Embracing his present without losing his past and he is attempting to define a sense of self that exists between the two. His works represent beauty, sophistication and a high level of perfection with a clear presence of Chinese influence represented in his use of colours, themes, shapes and materials.
