Odile Bernard Schröder’s REVELATION-REVOLUTION came about during the course of the recent French presidential campaign, in the spring of 2017. The series of photographs depicts the clash between demonstrators and police forces, along with screenshots from political shows on television, photographs of torn election posters, as well as living still lifes and chemigrams. What could be seen as a clash between images of entirely disparate genres — those of the physical world and others from beyond, generated through chemical processes — creates a narrative echo produced by OBS based on the visual intrigue conjured up by the political-media-polling elites, served up at the most decisive moment in the democratic life of a nation. This moment has been reduced to a spectacle crafted by so many directors, actors, entrepreneurs undertaken, hypnotized hypnotists, 'dégagistes dégagés'.... REVELATION-REVOLUTION, through its reversion into the esoteric tradition and the magic of chemical happenstance, condenses the phantasmagorical nature of the event, which has been hailed by its most famous actors and the “master of time” from Olympus as a Revolution. A spectacle that played out and will continue to play out right before you! Mandrakes, Egregores, Aces and other Lords of the Flies, conscripted by OBS and invisible, now unmasked, the protagonists of the drama. The juxtaposition of images—captured, inverted, discovered, tortured, or created ex nihilo—breaches the constant stream of iconospheres of politics and media. These images come from the depths of faith, a pursuit of ecstasy and the conjuring up of a collective hallucination, wherein reason has little to do with coming to a conclusive decision by the populace. It’s an inversion of the value statement, “If you understood what I said, I must have misspoken.” The apparatus set up by OBS, with its situationist accents, is not intended to cast the state of the world in doubt, but merely to question its representation on our television screens. Yet, remember that things that come together at one point continue to act on one another, even if they’re no longer in proximity. So, delve in and initiate yourselves from this perspective. Notice how in REVELATION-REVOLUTION, OBS devotes particular attention not only to what is depicted, but also to the way images reveal themselves to you. On old, light-sensitive papers, artifacts of long-forgotten industries and worlds, unveiling ghosts of the past before you, using a hand to make prints which — in contrast to yours, touching black screens — continues to hold the power to shape matter.
