Yves Marchand and Romain Meffre first became interested in ruins in 2001. These images appear to be a way of capturing the state of things that are difficult to preserve. The photographers first pursued their investigations in Europe. But one project caught their attention on the other side of the Atlantic: the United States, and more specifically the city of Detroit, revealed ruins in a different light: here, they were no longer anecdotal but logical. It becomes an almost natural, fundamental element of the landscape.
