BACK LIGHT The work of the Spanish artist Josep María Codina creates a world of its own. The layering of the work and the drawing provides quests for those who look at it. According to Codina, who created magically realistic work at the start of his career, his current work is an enlargement of reality. His work is not about abstract but a close up of the skin. In this exhibition work from 2013 can be seen, work on rice paper and canvas. The work on paper in particular is very delicate. The colors and drawing, in combination with the paper, create parchment-like sheets in which the play of lines give a wonderful depth to the very subtle works.
Josep Maria Codina is a renowned artist with work in museums and important collections. His work is collected all over the world. His work is currently on display in an exhibition at the Instuto Cervantes in New York, USA and in the museum of Avila, Spain.
