Jakub Hubálek is a nostalgic of our time. When you see his works it is impossible not to think of vintage photographs. But his discourse is extremely contemporary. He works around the empty feeling inside of today's society, a product of virtual reality in which we live.
Much of his work analyzes the state of adolescence, with all that entails. Becoming adult in an overly capitalist world means taking a big challenge identity. You have to work hard to become the person you reflect on your Facebook. That brings us to a state of constant anxiety, we need to be doing things all the time.
We note that in his paintings the characters are performing some action, we will never see a portrait of a passive person. We are a society with existential conflicts evidence that the artist in his monochrome painting.
