Art trophies: solo show by Ukrainian artist Oleksii Zolotariov
"Art trophies" project deals with the eternal theme of man's attitude toward hunting. Hunting is the searching, chasing and killing of wild animals for fun or entertainment which he proposes to rethink.
With this project, the artist encourages us to think about the questionable appropriateness and possible immorality of this activity that is often reduced to a mere demonstration of dead animal heads (trophies). creates elegant and expressive generic images of beasts perpetuating their portraits in sculptural installations intended to divert the viewers' attention from the morbid and yet captivating death scenes and to draw their attention to the aesthetics of pure art.
By the words of the artist: "After all, you don't necessarily have to hunt real animals, you can simply capture them in sculptures. Just like a stuffed animal, the sculpture is not alive. But the question is which of them has more energy, the one killed by a hunter or the one made by an artist? And whose energy is pure?"
