Powen Gallery is currently holding a New York based artist Peter Opheim (b.1961-) Solo exhibition, starting from March 9th to April 7th. The viewers are invited to travel to the fantasy and colorful world to experience different artistic dimensions.
This time, "Him Her" is Peter Opheim (b.1961-) second solo exhibition in the Chinese region. In addition to continuing the individual's unique creative style- a flat three-dimensional and vivid palette, it adds the artist's reflection of the spiritual world, which makes the works an endless story. In the artist statement, Opheim wrote:
Languishing in remembrances.
Distracted with forgiveness.
The temptation to allow everything to be ok.
The banishment of the alienation of regret.
Understanding one’s own literature of frivolity.
Small creatures gain a new life through the artist's imagination, but they can't be excused from being separated from the release of new works. In the eyes of Opheim, he saw these “figures” portrayed as companions on the road, like encountered in a city, and then separated at the next stop. They used to live in the artist's life, but gradually faded in the torrent of memory; they loved to live together, but each is an independent individual, longing for harmonic solitude. Their relationship with the artist is both close and alienated. Behind the colorful oil paint, they have their own future to go.
Looking back on 2018, Opheim's exhibitions are held in Taipei, Moscow, New York, Berlin, Shanghai, Bologna, and Japanese cities, as well as German BMW car dealers, London Christie's Charity and fashion interior design magazines. Opheim, who flew all year round, is now flying to Taipei again. His living experiences in different places also make his life saturated. As he is nearly 60 years old, his life is full of wisdom, which is reflected in his works - a bit more poetic and open-minded.
As a professional art institution, Powen Gallery has been sharing local artists with the world, and also represented foreign artists with good internationalization to the Chinese region. By injection of youth and creativity, local people have the opportunity to see high-quality alternative artworks.
