Rafael Ortiz ARCOmadrid 2018
We will display pieces of Spanish artists Manuel Barbadillo (Spain 1929-2003), Carmen Calvo (Spain, 1950) and Equipo 57 (Spain, 1957-Switzerland, 1962), Portuguese artist Dalila Gonçalves (Portugal, 1982) and Guatemalan artist Norman Morales (Guatemala, 1979)
This year’s edition of ARCO will be the 32nd continuous participation of Galería Rafael Ortiz in this art fair. For this edition, Galería Rafael Ortiz presents a project whose purpose is to strengthen the artistic and creative exchange between Spain, Portugal and Latin America. Artists have always felt responsible for describing our ever-changing world. As an expression of this shared duty, we display the works of five exceptional artists that have developed their works in different times, places and have completely different profiles, but share this common idea of witnessing to the world that surrounds them. In our stand, we will present two different tendencies: on the one hand, we present a conversation between two pioneers of the Spanish Normative Art (arte normativo): Equipo 57 (Córdoba, 1957- Sion 1962) and Manuel Barbadillo (Cazalla de la Sierra, Spain 1929- Málaga, Spain 2003), historical artists that work with modules, mathematical calculations and rigor. On the other hand, we present the work of Carmen Calvo (Valencia, Spain, 1950), Dalila Gonçalves (Castelo de Paiva, Portugal, 1982) and Norman Morales (Guatemala ciudad, Guatemala, 1979) whose main topic is the reconversion of ideas through the transformation of pre-existing objects. These three authors have very diverse aesthetics, but as they all work with the concept of time, they produce a conceptual work that is clearly complementary.
