Concurrent to the landmark exhibition, expressive ink paintings by contemporary Chinese artist Wang Mansheng will be shown to celebrate the enduring cultural influence of the ancient literati tradition. The atmospheric landscapes of trees and mountains Wang creates are the result of continuous experimentation and refinement, making use of diverse tools and mediums to reinterpret traditional brushwork, often within the framework of Chinese classical themes. The aesthetic paintings, when juxtaposed against the polished handling pieces, inspire a critical dialogue into the evolving nature of Chinese art today, addressing a common misconception that contemporary art and the antiquities occupy distinctly disparate spheres.
“Over the course of a year in auctions and on the open market, one sees thousands of objects of Chinese art, among which only very few boast exquisite quality,” says Nader Rasti, in celebration of the new show, “For me, this exhibition has taken five years in the planning, to source world-class pieces, to ensure unparalled research into each object, to guarantee exceptional provenance. As a dealer, it takes patience, expertise, and courage, to present genuine objects curated with the most discerning eye. We are proud to present this exhibition of rare white jade and white marble carvings, embodying our vision at Rasti Chinese Art to lead the industry in unearthing new opportunities, new
research, and new ways of collecting for the 21st century.”
