The MAC will showcase a new body of work and performance by Dallas-based artist Jeff Parrott, which considers abstraction and painting in relation to space and time. The Universe Is a Room We All Live In and I Am a Modern Shaman and We Are All Aliens, on view February 6 through February 20, reveals the artist in his natural environment - his studio. This space is transcendent: microscopic organisms manifest as obscure shapes, creatures morph, and contours, colors, textures and shapes evolve on the canvas. The Universe Is A Room records the unseen, the mind of the artist, through paintings of creatures, phenomena, and places. Viewers will have the opportunity to witness the inspiration behind Parrott's painting process through his sound and video performances that he calls "psyexpression," on Saturday, February 6 from 7-11 and Friday, February 19 from 8-10.
Jeff Parrott lives and works in Dallas, Texas. He earned a Master of Fine Arts in 2012 from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Texas A&M University-Commerce in 2010. He was recently named one of the Dallas Observer's Six Artists to Watch in 2016 and was featured in New American Paintings in 2012. Parrott's work has been exhibited internationally in Hungary and locally at the Latino Cultural Center, Bath House Cultural Center, Ro2 Art, 500x Gallery, and the Fort Worth Community Arts Center. Parrott is represented in Dallas by Ro2 Art.
