Robert Klein Gallery presents a selection of contemporary work focusing on the Earth as a mutable habitat. The curated group includes landscapes made in a nontraditional sense, photographs that stretch the boundaries of the genre and offer Western and Eastern perspectives in juxtaposition.
Contemporary artists GOHAR DASHTI, SEBASTIÃO SALGADO, ABELARDO MORELL, CIG HARVEY, PAULETTE TAVORMINA, JEFF BROUWS, MAGDA BIERNAT, MASAO YAMAMOTO, and ALIREZA FANIwill be featured. The gallery will also offer exquisite twentieth century photographs by GORDON PARKS, YOUSUF KARSH, ROBERT MAPPLETHORPE, IRVING PENN, FRANCESCA WOODMAN, and more.
BILL JACOBSON will sign copies of his new monograph, Place (Series), in Booth D3 on Friday, November 13, at 2 PM. An image from the book will be on display, as well. Robert Klein Gallery previously exhibited works from Place (Series) at Paris Photo in 2012 and 2014.
Paulette Tavormina is known for her luminous reinterpretations of 16th and 17th century still lifes. In her latest series, Vanitas, she pays homage to Dutch vanitas paintings by placing manmade items in the spotlight: pearls, maps, books, skulls, and coins, each a reference to the quick passage of time and the impermanence of material possessions. Incorporating transitory elements such as bubbles and smoke into the work, Tavormina deftly captures decisive moments within her still lifes and further confounds their painterly effect.
Vanitas IV (Dreams), after A.C., will debut at Paris Photo. The full series will not be released online until Spring 2016; interested collectors should inquire about the work in person or by email.
