AUSTIN, Texas (October 3, 2016) A feast for the senses will blanket the walls for the latest exhibit at the Russell Collection Fine Art Gallery this November, titled “From Here to There: An Abstract Continuum” and features 25 new pieces from Dallas, Texas based artist, Brad Ellis. Ellis is an expert in the encaustic art, where hot bees wax is mixed with pigments and applied to a board or canvas, and then fused to the surface with a heat source. His work explores systematic patterns and expressionistic compositions. The exhibit runs November 1-30, 2016 with an artist reception slated for Friday, November 4, 2016 from 6-8 pm.
“Brad’s work really moves me. His intensive creative processes yield amazing results and I’m thrilled to welcome all new works of his to Austin this fall,” says Lisa Russell, owner of the Russell Collection.
From the artist statement: The paintings in this show are a culmination of work made over the last three years resulting in a range of abstract imagery exploring a mash-up of various shapes, lines and textures with vibrant colors being the cohesive force uniting all of the work. Some of the new pieces have a smooth, hard-edge quality while others cavort in a sort of organic revelry with bold patterns and silhouettes spilling off the boundaries of the painting surfaces. All of the pieces are mixed medium works combining encaustic, oil stick, enamel and collage.
Painter Brad Ellis’s studio in Dallas is home to his labor-intensive process that often takes weeks to create a single piece. Brad earned his BFA from the University of Tulsa and has been represented by the Russell Collection since 2011. His paintings are exhibited in many prominent private and corporate collections throughout the country and is included in the U. S. State Department’s Art In Embassies Program, where his work is displayed in the Ambassador’s residence in Kampala, Uganda. As well, his paintings are featured in two recent books, Texas Abstract, Modern + Contemporary, published by Fresco Books and Encaustic Art In The Twenty-First Century, published by Schiffer.
