Press Release

The gallery is excited to feature Making New Memories by artist James Allen. Allen is known for creating sculpture by cutting into books, revealing new layers and textures. His book excavations, taking on various themes and eras, are a way of mining of history. In this latest body of work, the artist aims to re-present collective histories. The show is anchored by a major work of an American flag constructed entirely of the full sequence of the Britannica Encyclopedias of 1929, a pivotal year in our history. Titled “Black Flag,” the piece brings history into the now, making old new again.
