RxArt is pleased to work with Alexis Rockman on a project for Montgomery County Outpatient Center in Rockville, Maryland. Part of Children's National Health System, this Center is their largest outpatient extension, serving approximately 65,000 families from Maryland, Pennsylvania and West Virginia. Montgomery County Outpatient Center offers specialized care for pediatric patients with neurodevelopmental disabilities, including autism and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. Rockman is creating new field drawings of animals native to the Montgomery County area. His drawings were made with soil sourced near the center and will be fabricated and installed as life size vinyl decals throughout the center. The installation will transform spaces where children wait to receive what are often stressful treatments, where they will now hopefully be happily distracted by an enchanting world of creatures native to their own backyard. This project marks an important milestone for RxArt, as it will be accompanied by our first commissioned study. The study will survey the impact that the installed artwork has on the children’s behavior by monitoring their vitals and markers of stress before and after installation. RxArt is grateful to the William E. Weiss Foundation for their pledged lead support of this project.
