RxArt is proud of our collaboration with José Parlá at Incarnation Children’s Center in the Washington Heights neighborhood of New York City. Incarnation Children’s Center (ICC) is New York City’s only pediatric skilled nursing facility exclusively offering specialized care for children and adolescents living with HIV/AIDS. ICC provides a nurturing home environment to approximately 20 children and young adults at a time. Currently, there are 21 residents, ages 9 to 21 years old, many of whom have grown up living at ICC. Parlá has created a new series of work that will be installed as wall coverings for some of ICC’s most-used living spaces: the dining room, the main residence hallway, recreation sunroom and outdoor roof deck. There, he has covered what was a blank brick wall with waves of color to inspire the residents all year long.
In New York alone, Parlá has completed major installations at One World Trade Center, Brooklyn Academy of Music and Barclays Center and is working with architecture firm Snøhetta to design the facade of the Far Rockaway public library in Queens. Parlá studied at Miami Dade Community College, New World School of the Arts and Savannah College of Art & Design. Parlá lives and works in Brooklyn, New York.
