Shinji Oya uses traditional Nihonga techniques to depict gold fish, carp, and seasonal flowers. The motifs have a cultivated elegance that draws the eye, recalling the solemnity of wind rippling across still water and the unceasing changing of the seasons.

Shinji Oya was born in Kanagawa prefecture, Japan in 1972 and graduated from Japanese painting course of Department of Painting at the Tama Art University.
He uses traditional Nihonga techniques to depict gold fish, carp, and seasonal flowers. The motifs which emerge from his canvases have a cultivated elegance that draws the eye, recalling the solemnity of wind rippling across still water and the unceasing changing of the seasons.
