For the very first time, Sèvres takes part in the FIAC – the International Contemporary Art Fair of Paris. For this occasion, three events are taking place, with internationally renowned contemporary artists.
In this year’s edition of the FIAC, Sevres presents in its booth, under the majestic canopy of the Grand Palais, an ensemble of the latest contemporary creations, including artworks of Johan Creten, Lionel Estève, Barthélémy Toguo et Lee Ufan.
The monumental installation of the American artist Jim Dine, "Thru the stardust, the heat on the lawn (Claude)", takes place in the Tuileries Garden, in the « Outdoor projects » of the FIAC. This artwork constitutes ten ceramic sculptures covered in calligraphic poems and jabbed tools. It is to be considered greater than 20 meters long, and was completed during the artist’s second residency at the Manufacture de Sèvres. This exhibition is a collaboration with the Templon Gallery.
At last, Lionel Esteve’s artworks, created in the Manufacture de Sèvres, will be presented in the Pavillon Pompadour for a period of three weeks. For more than four years, Lionel Estève, with the involvement of the craftsmen of Sèvres, developed large bevelled porcelain plates. The artwork’s surfaces, covered with platinum, have been transformed by colored shock waves, revealing the rich palette of enamels and crystallizations of Sevres. This exhibition is a collaboration with the Perrotin Gallery.
Since the 18th century the Manufacture de Sèvres has never ceased to encourage each period’s artists to create works in porcelain and to promote them; a long living tradition enhanced in today’s contemporary scene.
For three centuries, traditional manufacturing processes have served innovation by enhancing new forms and colors, ensuring that porcelain art has gradually become a new means of artistic expression.
