SGR Galeria presents a selection of graduation projects from Visual art students from several Bogota Universities. The show is called “This Is Not a Game” because we could identify between the selected works a common thread: an approach to the practice and semiotics of games, and the attitudes belonging to those who are playing as sources of experimentation for the creation of art works. The association between art and play may seem a cliché, but we feel that the exhibition that we are presenting vindicates this kinship thanks to the youth and freedom of these five students. They are still testing their limits, and we can still recognize in them the unfiltered joyfulness of discovering a language of their own.
Furthermore, the title of the exhibition also alludes to SGR Galeria’s wish to become a bridge between the end of the academic life and the beginning of a path in the professional and commercial art world. We feel that there is, in our context, a profound gap between the places of training and education and the spaces for the diffusion and commercialization of art. We hope that with this initiative a discussion on this situation might open up.
