Subjective and beguilingly open-ended in application, psychedelic experience has long been a part of the cultural sounding board and an irrevocable stimulus to creativity. At times imprisoned solely within the realm of psychoactive substance use, or by the weight of its role in Twentieth Century counter-culture, this exhibition instead looks to natural phenomena as vehicles of the psychedelic and heightened sensory perception, taking elemental ideas of aquatic waveform and vibration as banners for collective response.
Where hearing is deemed to be a passive process and listening an active one, these works set out to actively trigger an engagement of the senses and an immersion in their minutiae. With the flow of a river yielding the potential to unravel pre-ordained perceptions of time, this exhibition takes such a notion and seeks to articulate it across the spectrum of material and immaterial, visual and audio, and from the surface level to what resides below.
