In the early 1970s, thousands of young people established communal farms seeking a lower impact way of life. A utopia.

The photographs in the series Back-To-The-Land were made during five trips to an off-the-grid holler in Appalachia. The first journeys were in the 1970s and the final drive down the creek bed that doubles as a county road was in October 2017.

A lot has changed. Nothing has changed.
