Somerville Manning Gallery is pleased to present an exhibition of new works by Greg Mort and Jon Mort from November 20 – December 19, 2015. A reception with both artists will be held on Friday, November 20, from 5:30-7:30 p.m., with gallery talks by both artists at 6:30.
In A Father & Son Exploration, Greg and Jon Mort investigate the universe together while evolving in their individual journeys. Although their respective philosophies share a common lineage, each is exploring the manifestation of their views through individual expression.
Greg Mort has continued his multifaceted career as an artist of remarkable success with over 27 years at Somerville Manning Gallery. Mort's artwork reflects a fascination with an intersection of art and science that clearly displays his innate and insatiable desire to discover and explore. His art can be found in the private collections of three US presidents and two vice presidents, as well as in premier museums around the world including the Smithsonian's American Art Museum and Air and Space Museum, the National Gallery of Art and the Portland, Delaware, Farnsworth, and Academy Art Museums. Luminaries such as Carl Sagan and Neil Armstrong are counted among Greg's patrons.
Jon Mort, a self-described ‘storyteller,’ cites influences in his work from archaeology and literature to astronomy and poetry. The artist's drawings were exhibited at the Portsmouth Museum of Art, The Phillips Museum of Art, the Sandy Spring Museum and many more. Jon's new creations, in the challenging medium of colored pencil, have received rave critical reviews citing their unique design and exceptional artistic execution
