"The Tropic of Cancer lies 23.5° north of the Equator. This is the most northerly circle of latitude on Earth at which the Sun is directly overhead on the Summer Solstice."
Shaw's paintings reflect the color and energy of the environment found in theTropic of Cancer. Her work approaches traditional landscape painting with an infusion of abstract expressionism. The paintings are large enough for the viewer to see as well as feel. "I am attempting to paint what I experience when I’m in the landscape. There is kinetic energy in the environment that is fueled by quickly changing elements like wind, water and light. These elements are at play with our inner sensibilities and basic instincts.
“My paintings spark a sensory connection to the sights, smells and sounds of a place one has been. I love the natural environment, I love water and sunlight. These are large paintings that invoke a memory of place. Every time I come into a room with one of these paintings, I feel like I am there.”
