Spence Gallery Presents an Online Artsy Exhibit of Large Paintings by Marcelo Suaznabar
February 1 – 24, 2018
Spence Gallery is pleased to present an online presentation exhibition of a collection of 10 large format paintings by Marcelo Suaznabar after an extensive exhibit by the National Museum of Art, Bolivia.
Marcelo Suaznabar has been living and practicing as an artist in Toronto, Canada since 2001 when he migrated from his birthplace in the high plains of Bolivia. Since then he has received increasing recognition world-wide.
To celebrate his international success and recognize his artistic accomplishments, in 2016-2017, the National Museum of Art, Bolivia mounted an exhibit of 16 large format pieces spanning 10 years of the artist's career. The exhibit began in La Paz, the capital, followed by a tour of five satellite museums across the country. The National Museum acquired one piece of his work for its permanent collection and other pieces were also acquired by private collectors.
Following these exhibits, 10 large format pieces have been returned to us in Toronto and we would like to share them with them with the world.
If you are familiar with Suaznabar’s work you have likely seen his smaller whimsical pieces that are usually snapped up at international art fairs. We are pleased to share these more complex pieces that truly reflect the surrealist inspiration of his work.
