Mario Ayala was born in 1991 in Los Angeles. He graduated from the San Francisco Art Institute in 2014
where he received the Yale Norfolk fellowship in 2012. He was a participant at the Skowhegan School of
Painting and Sculpture in 2014.
Painting in acrylic using an airbrush, Ayala works with and through vernacular modes of cultural expression,
materials, and imagery, reconfiguring them to present a distinctly visual lexicon in which elements contradict
