In his second solo exhibition at the Stern-Wywiol Gallery, Volker März deals with the dialectic between Heaven and Hell. He sees our daily oscillation between these inseparable poles as the prerequisite for knowledge.
Volker März uses his painted clay figures, images, texts and film sequences to explore the foundations underlying contemporary conditions and to test whether circumstances are unalterable. He questions whether we are civilized and uses his Horizontalists, who have freed themselves from the strictures of the world, to provide farseeing answers. In a comprehensive installation filling up the entire gallery, Volker März inverts relative proportions and draws us into a world that wins us over with humor and moves our intellect.
