STURGIS ART GALLERY is pleased to announce its participation in the ninth edition of Art Market Hamptons, an international art fair that will take place in Bridgehampton, NY, at the Bridgehampton Museum, July 5–7, 2019. The exhibition will feature works by STURGIS ART GALLERY artists Joseph Adolphe, Beth Carter, SJ Fuerst, Chizuri Morii Kaplan, Mark Knoerzer, Laetitia Lesaffre, Chris Morano, Kejoo Park, and special guest featured artists. Joseph Adolphe’s canvases show the delicate side of a bull and the formidable angle of a flower; these incongruous qualities recall the tug-of-war between universal forces that exist within nature and ourselves. Bronze and resin sculptures by Beth Carter are allegories of the human condition, as mythological as they are contemporary, as formidable as they are sensitive. SJ Fuerst juxtaposes traditional oil techniques with pop art and high fashion references to create works that are cheeky, subversive, and exceptionally real. Chizuri Morii Kaplan’s architectural watercolors are like reflection pools that give viewers a glimpse into another world beneath their ripples. The colorful, pulsing geometry of a Mark Knoerzer painting energizes the act of seeing with playfulness and verve. Laetitia Lesaffre investigates the space between photography and painting; her works are inspired by mirrors—but meant to capture an essence rather than an echo, an impression rather than a replica. Chris Morano’s narrative canvases spark conversations with targeted subjects, poignant titles, and stark backgrounds that keep the viewer’s focus on the necessary dialogue. Kejoo Park synthesizes contrasts into harmonies: East and West, abstraction and realism, landscape and architecture, external and internal, stillness and movement.
