TAI Modern is pleased to announce its participation in the 30th edition of Art Miami. This year’s fair will be held at the former Miami Herald site at One Herald Plaza, on 14th Street between the Venetian and MacArthur Causeways. Art Miami opens with a VIP preview on Tuesday, December 3, and runs through Sunday, December 8. TAI Modern will be exhibiting recent works by Japanese sculptors in bamboo, as well as paintings and mixed media works by contemporary American artists.
As the premier gallery for contemporary Japanese bamboo art for over 20 years, TAI Modern will exhibit works by noteworthy bamboo artists including Honma Hideaki, Yuichi Monden, and Living National Treasure Fujinuma Noboru, who each have highly contemporary approaches to this traditional art form. These artists have work in major American museum collections, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Art Institute of Chicago, and the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. In addition to Japanese bamboo sculptures, TAI Modern will also exhibit works by Japanese glass artist Kojiro Yoshiaki.
TAI Modern will also feature works by contemporary American painter Monique van Genderen and collage artist Lance Letscher. Monique van Genderen’s compositions create a painterly language that is concerned with surface, finish, and continued interventions within the subject of painting. Letscher has worked near-exclusively with harvested papers, such as old books, records, and other found materials for the past decade. After careful selection, Letscher painstakingly slices them into strips and shapes, assembling thousands of them into stunning collages.
