TASTE AT TRESOR CONTEMPORARY CRAFT
TASTE is delighted to announce their participation in the inaugural Tresor Contemporary Craft, which takes place from 21 - 24 September 2017 in Basel Switzerland.
At the fair TASTE will present work by a number of established and internationally recognised artists working in ceramics, glass, metal, wood and textiles. These include the German artist Ernst Gamperl, winner of the 2017 LOEWE Craft Prize and British artist’s Alison Britton & Andrea Walsh, finalists in the BBC4 Women’s Hour Craft Prize 2017. In addition TASTE will show work by Paul March and Baldwin + Guggisberg, both of whom will feature in Special Projects, a section of the fair that aims to showcase the scale and ambition of craft today. Here Paul March will present a four-metre high ceramic sculpture entitled Another Part of the World while Baldwin + Guggisberg will show a large-scale sculpture from their on-going boat series, consisting of a life-size raft filled with free-blown glass bottles and vessels. Many of the artists whose work will be shown in Basel have previously exhibited with TASTE however this exhibition will include, for the first time, work by the Norwegian artist, Elisabeth von Krogh.
TRESOR contemporary craft is the new international platform for high-end craft and contemporary applied arts. The first edition takes place from 21–24 September 2017 in Messe Basel and in addition to a host of international galleries, including TASTE, the fair will feature a series of themed exhibitions, called Curated Spaces, that have been developed by Tresor’s Artistic Director, Brian Kennedy, a Discovery section, focusing on emerging artists and Special Projects section. This is in addition to talks, screenings and many other events.
Established by Monique Deul, Taste Contemporary Craft is dedicated to challenging current perceptions and encouraging a greater appreciation for artists who work in a craft tradition. Each year, through its participation in exclusive international events and gallery programme, Taste continues to champion and showcase important, innovative craft by both new and established artists [with works in museum & private collections] who continue to push the boundaries of contemporary craft practice.
