The 4 Gate Connection refers to the story of Prince Siddharta’s exit through the four gates of his castle. After encountering a toothless old man at the East Gate, a sick man at the North Gate, and a funeral at the West Gate Siddharta found an ascetic doing practice and trying to achieve enlightement at the South Gate. This would be the start of Siddharta’s exchange of a life of luxury, ease, and comfort into the life of an ascetic. The story functions as an allegory on life and its purpose
The work of the 8 artists in this show reflect various aspects of the changing human condition in a time where we urgently need to develop a higher consciousness and sense of self as a broadened collective & more responsible awareness. Abstract figures, meditative fabrics, apocalyptic assemblages, exotic patterns and kinetic surfaces alternate each other within an exhibition that is both timely contemplative and refreshingly aesthetic.
