The AVA Gallery at The 2018 Investec Cape Town Art Fair
Cape Town, SA – Nine emerging South African fine artists are set to turn up the heat at The AVA Gallery's
2018 Cape Town Art Fair booth this February.
Duration: 15 to 18 February
The Association for Visual Arts is Cape Town’s original arts body. As the oldest non-profit gallery in Cape
Town, The AVA prides itself on consistently playing a prominent role in facilitating cultural interaction, and
championing insightful emerging and established voices in contemporary African art. November 2017 saw
the culmination of The Nando's Creative Exchange, a three-month artist mentorship programme in
partnership with Spier Arts Trust, in the form of a dynamic group exhibition at The AVA Gallery.
The exhibition recognised Southern African fine artists – Boyce Magandela, Fikile Mqhayi, Lindile Magunya,
Sandile Mhlongo, Elsabe Milandri, Emalie Bingham and Emma Nourse – who demonstrate exceptional
ability and are currently transitioning from emerging to mid-career artists. Rory Emmett and SaySay.Love join
these seven artists in exhibiting at The AVA's booth at this year's Investec Cape Town Art Fair. You can find
The AVA at booth F5 in the 'Cultural Platforms' section of the art fair.
As in 2017, the AVA showcase is designed around an exciting line-up of artist-to-artist talks taking place at
both the AVA Gallery and The Cape Town Art Fair booth between the 14th and 18th of February. Participating artists will be interviewing each other informally, whilst audiences listen and partake in the conversation if they so wish. Last year's experience took the audiences from deeply artistic topics to sensitively political issues such as privilege and xenophobia. This year's artist talk schedule is as follows:
Wednesday 14th (VIP Programme):
18h00 at the AVA Gallery, an introduction to the Javett Art Centre at the University of Pretoria (the
