MEDIA RELEASE

North East gallery puts small prints in the frame this autumn

A Newcastle-based gallery welcomes a touring exhibition of 150 fine art mini-prints as part of its new seasonal line-up – one of only six cities in the UK to host the collection.
The Biscuit Factory, the UK’s largest arts, craft and design gallery, hosts Leicester Print Workshop’s touring exhibition, Small Print International for two months as part of Northern Print’s renowned International Print Biennale – a celebration of the people and ideas involved in printmaking.

The Biscuit Factory is the most northerly gallery in the country to host the exhibition which tours the country until summer 2017. The exhibition includes artwork by 90 artists from 18 countries, consisting of 150 small prints of 100 square centimetres or less.

Alongside this print showcase, The Biscuit Factory will also unveil its new collection of contemporary paintings, glass, ceramics, textiles and jewellery; welcoming local painter Peter Hallam as the headline artist in its first floor Cube Gallery space with his new exhibition of distinct, abstract portraits.

Other highlights this autumn include Scottish-based artist Julie Dumbarton with her vibrant landscapes; Royal College of Art graduate, Sarah Wiberley with her contemporary take on 19th century Cameo glass; and maker Julia Wright who showcases her beautiful hand formed copper and silver jewellery.

Rachel Brown, general manager of The Biscuit Factory, says: “We’re thrilled to be one of the host cities for the Small Print International exhibition. This diverse, inspiring collection showcases a variety of printmaking techniques, and is perfect for those after an affordable print for their home.

“Alongside this, we welcome gallery favourite Peter Hallam as autumn’s headline artist and can’t wait for people to see his new collection of mesmeric characters based on real people he has met throughout his life.”

The autumn exhibition opens with a special launch event on Friday 2 September, 6-9pm, which is an opportunity for guests to enjoy a first-look and buy from the new collection.

The Biscuit Factory’s autumn exhibition, incorporating Small Print International, runs from 2 September to 30 October 2016. The gallery is open seven days a week and admission is free.
