DAM ART ’16
Compositions: The Arrangement of Unique Things
The Directed Art Modern is pleased to announce the opening of DAM ART 16’ “Compositions: the Arrangement of Unique Things”, a group exhibition of installation, photography, and painting by eleven international artists on view at Savoy Hotel, 423 Ocean Dr, Miami Beach Florida, from November 30 - December 4, 2016.
DAM Art ’16 will feature artists Stefano Ogliari Badessi, Domink Schmitt, Mau Harrison, Kornelios Grammenos, Alan Belloso Castello, Naomi White, Khotan Fernandez, Carlos Rancano, Taylor White, Pia Myrvold, and Pablo Power.
Among the works to be shown, Italian-based Venice Biennial artist Stefano Ogliari Badessi's, Balloon installation will transform the Savoy’s 2,000 square foot ballroom for the artist’s first US exhibition during Art Basel and first with the Directed Art Modern.
Stefano’s works follow the legacy of early monumental site specific works by Jeanne Claude and Christo whereby abstract changes to the space are reflective of human engagement with the environment. However, in Badessi’s large-scale public installations this idea is accentuated by an emphasis on creating “emotional spaces” and generating new emotions in the viewers. He proposes new ways of being able to relate to art. He would like to create experiences on an emotional level rather than on an intellectual one; one that can pivot on the primordial feelings that are buried deep within ourselves. The focus of his research shifts from the signifier to the experiences of the viewer.
Exhibition highlights include; Khotan Fernandez’s imposing, welded-steel cages filled with plastic pink flamingos from the artists’ series of Miami greeting attendees on Ocean Drive; Kornelios Grammenos an international artist heralding from Greece will exhibit his series of cardboard Aliens installation making his Art Basel Miami debut. Taylor White, from The United States, will also be making his debut in this year’s Art Basel Week in Miami, also his debut with The DAM and will present the viewer with his large scale mixed media paintings where he playfully addresses social issues.
