San Diego, CA: In the spring of 2017 much of California erupted in a flurry of colorful wildflowers that had been hiding out during our long drought. Borrego Springs drew the most attention as crowds of nature lovers (contemporary impressionist Erin Hanson included) flocked to experience the lush valleys full of wildflowers before the caterpillars ate them or they withered in the desert sun. After photographing the Borrego Springs super bloom to use as references in her modern landscape paintings, Hanson traveled further to capture the spread of wildflowers across California, Arizona, and Texas. Upon returning to her studio in San Diego, a collection of paintings took form, were dubbed “The Super Bloom Collection,” and will be available for limited viewing at The Erin Hanson Gallery on Saturday, September 9th.
“The 2017 super bloom was a beautiful and rare experience,” says Erin Hanson. “I am so glad I had the opportunity to experience this unique natural phenomenon not only in California but also in the other Western states.”
Since spring, Hanson has been re-creating the super bloom experience in her signature, open impressionistic style. This entire collection will be available for viewing for a limited time at her upcoming exhibition, The Super Bloom Show. The Erin Hanson Gallery will be hosting an artist’s reception from 5-9PM on September 9th, 2017.
Enjoy wine, live music, and refreshments while viewing this incredible collection filled with vibrant colors, wildflower blooms, and natural vistas.
