WALL ROCKETS: Contemporary Artists and Ed Ruscha
To Travel to the Albright Knox and Now Extended at FLAG
Open every Friday for the duration of the show and by appointment
The FLAG Art Foundation is honored to announce that its third exhibition, WALL ROCKETS: Contemporary Artists and Ed Ruscha, curated by Lisa Dennison, will travel to the Albright-Knox Art Gallery in Buffalo, New York, where it will be on view from July 24, 2009 through October 25, 2009. Alongside this excit- ing development and in light of the enthusiasm with which the show has been received, FLAG will extend the duration of the exhibition at its current location through April 18, 2009.
The show includes a selection of contemporary artists whose work has been influenced by Ed Ruscha. Ruscha is arguably one of the most innovative art- ists of the past four decades, and one of the first American artists to consider the role of consumerism in both art and culture. His references to the American landscape, particularly that of Southern California, reflect the urban experience and explore the complexities of language as a form of visual imagery.
Both institutions provide visitors with a unique and intimate environment in which to engage with Ruscha’s art. The Albright-Knox Art Gallery’s rich history and its longstanding commitment to modern and contemporary art compliment FLAG’s inventive and exciting vision. Ultimately, both institutions are fitting contexts for WALL ROCKETS, a testament to Ed Ruscha’s profound historical presence demonstrating that his work continues to inspire and prove relevant to contemporary artists.
