NEW YORK, August 2016 – The Future Perfect is pleased to present the US debut of the Progetto Non Finito collection, a series of furniture and rugs designed by celebrated Milanese design firm DIMORESTUDIO. On view alongside site-specific handmade wallpaper by CALLIDUS GUILD, the exhibition marks the first time that DIMORESTUDIO’s elegant furniture and rugs creations will be on view and available to purchase in the United States, as well as their first partnership outside of Italy. Opening at The Future Perfect on September 14, 2016, the exhibition pairs two design studios that blur the boundaries between art and design, fashion and architecture.
Founded in 2003 by Emiliano Salci and Britt Moran, DIMORESTUDIO creates interiors and objects that evoke a distinct atmosphere. Known for their use of rich, deep colors and a harmonious blend of historical periods, DIMORESTUDIO’s uniquely contemporary aesthetic has made the firm a favorite among top luxury fashion brands and hoteliers around the world. The DIMORESTUDIO furniture and rugs collection, Progetto Non Finito, translates the duo’s sophisticated aesthetic into object form using a deft balance of opulent materials and historical inspiration with a contemporary design vocabulary.
DIMORESTUDIO at The Future Perfect will feature a range of seating, tables, bookcases, lighting, and more, including new rug designs from the firm’s widely praised presentation during Salone del Mobile 2016. The Progetto Non Finito collection includes: Tavolo basso 059, Poltroncina 068, Tavolo 063, Lampada 036, Libreria 003, Poltrona 008, Divano 067, Tavolo basso 065, Consolle 021, Lampada 061, Tavolo basso 043, Poltrona 081 + Tavolino 080, Tappeto 005, Divano 016.
“I’ve been following DIMORESTUDIO’s work for years. They are one of the most talented firms working today and I’m honored to bring their furniture to the US for the first time ever,” said David Alhadeff, founder of The Future Perfect. “The principles and aesthetics that guide DIMORESTUDIO’s designs are echoed in the work of CALLIDUS GUILD, another exciting new addition to The Future Perfect family.”
Also a favorite among the world’s top fashion brands, including Chanel, Dior, and Louis Vuitton, CALLIDUS GUILD is a Brooklyn-based design studio that elevates wallpaper to fine art. Founded in 1996 by Yolande Milan Batteau, CALLIDUS GUILD specializes in exquisite handmade surfaces created using ancient materials and advanced artisan techniques. Similarly to DIMORESTUDIO, CALLIDUS GUILD creates contemporary designs that honor tradition and blend old with new.
For her debut show at The Future Perfect, Batteau will present her new Meta collection, a cultural cross-pollination that features three hand-plastered wallpaper patterns derived from cultural periods that continue to influence CALLIDUS GUILD: French Art Deco, West African
sculpture and textiles of the early twentieth century, the Japanese Meiji Period, Belgian simplicity and Contemporary Art.
All CALLIDUS GUILD papers are made from the finest marble plaster, pigments and beeswax on a recycled cellulose paper ground. Flashes of 24 karat gold, Mother of Pearl, and bronze powders add touches of sparkle and interest.
Also on view will be CALLIDUS GUILD’s one-of-a-kind gold-leaf mirrors, which are created by pressing delicate gold leaf between two pieces of glass.
