THE GEORGE GALLERY PRESENTS
NEW BETWEEN, A SOLO EXHIBIT BY PAINTER LORI GLAVIN
Fall 2017--Charleston, SC--The George Gallery, located at 50 Bogard St., is hosting the opening of a show of new paintings by Lori Glavin on Friday, October 6 from 5-8 pm. Glavin’s solo exhibit will be on view at the Gallery through October 27. This event is free and open to the public. One of the best ways to describe Lori Glavin’s work, according to Anne Siegfried, The George Gallery owner, is –personal.
“Glavin doesn’t pick up her paintbrush to make something ‘pretty’ or to recreate an object; she paints her life, her emotions, and her environment. She has learned in her twenty plus years as a professional artist, how to tell the story of the everyday through her paintings and collages. Her style is best described as abstract expressionism, with the added graphic quality of her collage work. Glavin works in a style that is very relevant today. She comes by it authentically, through her life experience.”
“My work is inspired by the visual clatter of the mundane places I know best, the domestic environment, or the tilted landscape of my weekend garden. In my home, possessions are stacked and scattered, organized and misplaced, remembered and forgotten. This dichotomy informs and inspires my studio practice. I make piles to gain control and to find order in a world of excess data, information and consumer goods. In my work I combine, collect, and sort – layering small bits to make an arrangement of color and shape that becomes a monument to the minutiae of my daily life,” As stated by Lori Glavin
