NEW ART GALLERY OPENS AT ONE&ONLY CAPE TOWN
The Melrose Gallery has entered into an exciting collaboration with One&Only Cape Town to provide a valuable platform for the showcasing and celebration of Pan African Contemporary art.
Dr Esther Mahlangu, the globally acclaimed Ndebele artist, will be officially opening The Melrose Gallery at One&Only Cape Town on 12 February 2019 with the launch of ‘TIMELESS’, a captivating group exhibition that encapsulates the diversity, artistic talent and legacy of both established and emerging Pan-African artists.
Dr Mahlangu will unveil six paintings that she has created for One&Only Cape Town on the same evening. These will be proudly displayed in One&Only's main foyer as a symbol of national pride and heritage and the public is welcome to view these artworks from 13 February.
“TIMELESS” is part of the official VIP programme for the International Cape Town Art Fair 2019, and Art Week Cape Town. The exhibition is a bold and intimate conversation that features works by visionary artists including Esther Mahlangu, Willie Bester, Paul Blomkamp, Christiaan Diedericks, Aza Mansongi, Clint Strydom, Ndabuko Ntuli, Ronald Muchatuta, and Restone Maambo. It is a creative conversation that unfolds through art, time and consciousness.
Although attendance of the official event and opening of the new gallery is by invitation only, the exhibition opens to the public on 13 February and runs until 30 April 2019.
This exciting partnership will revolve around four captivating curated exhibitions per annum, in a space that hosts an array of international visitors and guests who can now enjoy and also support African art, culture and creativity.
One&Only Cape Town has a long history of supporting the arts and has acquired and continues to grow its extensive art collection. This new association with the Melrose Gallery is just another step in their goal to provide an authentic, exclusive and memorable experience for visitors and guests.
The Melrose Gallery is excited to be expanding on our popular and successful gallery space in Melrose Arch Johannesburg to provide Cape Town audiences with an opportunity to benefit from our programme.
We invite you to explore the artworks in the new space at your leisure and look forward to a continued sharing via this new adventure honouring African artistic talent with South Africans, and the world as we open the doors of the Melrose Gallery Cape Town.
