Tile Blush is proud to present, Zero, One or Two, a two person show of the paintings by the artist, Lynne Golob Gelfman and a selection of stone tables by the designer, Jessica Martin. Both Gelfman and Martin, though at differing ages and points in their careers, share an affinity for geometry, materiality and natural processes that informs the very way in which they approach conceiving, producing and finalizing their works.
The title, Zero, One or Two refers to trinary logic, in which each individual digit can only have one of three values: 0, 1 or 2. Trinary logic is, coincidentally, a shared theme that runs through how Golob and Martin conceive of their works.
Lynne Golob Gelfman's paintings from the Thru series are derived from the grid which systematize patterns of right isosceles triangles. Gelfman then paints on the verso of the canvases obscuring her hand, as well as the grid, to randominity as the paint bleeds through to the face of the canvas creating inadvertent yet beautiful patterns. Gelfman's paintings in the show were all created in the 1970s but set the groundwork for the Thru series which she continues to work on to this day.
Jessica Martin will be showing a selection from her Planar series which are inspired by interlocking joinery of Kiyosi Seike. Her tables are created with three or more intersectional flat planes of shaped stone, jointed together to create functional yet highly stylized tables. Martin selects her stones, often weathered, based on relational color.
Zero, One or Two invites viewers to explore and enjoy the totality of vision, confidence and resolve that facilitates the simplicity and elegance in the visionary creations in the works of Lynne Golob Gelfman and Jessica Martin.
Zero, One or Two will be on view at the gallery located at 8375 NE 2nd Avenue, Miami FL 33138, from April 6th through June 9th, 2018. There will be an opening reception from 6 to 9pm on Friday, April 6th.
