Stegmaier creates paintings using simple colors and drawings composed with added simple lines and cut and pasted paper.
For Stegmaier, completion of a work means a moment when the work starts supporting itself. Sometimes it takes years for the moments to arrive. While his drawings are created systematically, paintings are sensual and have strong presence. Both are traces of the artist’s thoughts, suggesting the pile of time spent for production.
Following his solo exhibition last year, this is the artist’s second at Tomio Koyama Gallery, and will feature 17 works including new paintings and drawings. Viewers are invited to experience serene space that Stegmaier’s work creates.
