50 years ago Apollo 11 traveled to the moon. Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin spent 21 hours 31 minutes on the lunar surface at a site they named Tranquility Base. Track 16 is presenting Tranquility, the first series of Apollo 11 recordings that Paul Ramirez Jonas transferred onto wax cylinders. The artist rebuilt Thomas Edison’s first phonograph then used it to record onto 398 green wax cylinders (each containing about a minute of sound), the initial six and one-half hours of the first manned mission to the moon in 1969.
