Seattle, WA - Treason Gallery is pleased to announce its October solo exhibition, Mary Iverson: CONFLUENCE. Opening reception will be held on Thursday, October 4th from 6pm-9pm during the First Thursday Art Walk in Pioneer Square.
Seattle-based painter Mary Iverson will be presenting an entirely new body of work with her CONFLUENCE exhibition. Exploring the relationship between the environment, climate change and consumerism, Iverson’s exquisitely executed landscapes illuminate the beauty in North America’s natural terrains. Iverson’s paintings are inspired by her own time spent in nature, executed with a fidelity and reverence only possible through her personal experiences with the spaces she paints.
Iverson’s paintings are most often associated with the intricacy of layered, grid-like lines carved into the canvases. Using a blade, Iverson cuts asymmetrical lines into the landscapes, simulating the unseen undercurrents of the negative effects of climate change. The lines, although stunning in composition, represent a future of convoluted progress and unchecked development in natural spaces. The complex web of lines act as a metaphor for the choices of today and their future consequences.
Iverson’s new body of work is also presented with a series of color studies, giving her viewers a new perspective into her artistic process. This introduces the artist’s tools as a stand-alone work of art for viewers to contemplate. Using an academic approach to process, the palettes have a life of their own while simultaneously complimenting her iconic landscapes.
Join us at the opening reception on Thursday, October 4th from 6pm-9pm at TREASON Gallery located in Pioneer Square, 319 3RD AVE S, Seattle, WA 98104.
