This past venue is now presented as an online show. Twenty First Gallery presents a selection of furniture, lighting, and design objects by French designer Emmanuel Babled. Exhibited in the U.S. for the first time, the pieces exemplify the designer's innovations with classic mater
Emmanuel Babled’s Osmosi series features imaginative, biomorphic designs that juxtapose austere marble with the sensuous grace of hand blown glass. By combining new 3D technology with traditional craftsmanship in an innovative way, a virtual fusion is made between these materials, which are assembled with a precision that is only possible thanks to advanced digital technology.
The Quark series is similarly an exploration of materials and production techniques that gives rise to amoebic, monolithic tables that reconsiders traditional methods of Italian craftsmanship in their execution of marble, bronze, copper, and Plexiglas. The precision of the digital tools employed to produce the tables results in original, organic shapes that blend design functionality with sculptural identity.
The Etnastone collection is named after the Sicilian volcano, in reference to the traditional craftsmanship in lava stone and ceramics found in the town of Caltagirone, Italy. Formed by pieces of delicately enameled lava stone, this low table consists of puzzle-like elements allowing for infinite customization possibilities.
Inspired by 1960s pop culture, the Digit series departs from the traditional Murano style of chandelier. Made of luminous and reflective Murano glass, the different Digit elements are combined together to form unique architectural lighting compositions. The placement of the hand blown orbs is determined using exacting digital technology; the spheres barely graze one another.
